Portside International provides disaster response support to the Port of Salalah.
In response to significant damaged caused by cyclone Mekunu, which was the most destructive storm recorded in the region, Portside International together with its partner Inver Port Services, provided support services to restore operations. This response included technical and operational assistance, including the management of the engineering workshop for a nominated period to coordinate a rapid response for the terminal. The work included repair of tow tractors, trailers, RTGs and ship to shore cranes. At the height of the crisis, Portside International deployed personnel from Australia to lead the response activities in close collaboration with Port of Salalah management.
Portside International had been providing repair and maintenance services at the Port of Salalah at the time the storm hit the region, a contract which continues.
The response by Portside International enabled the restoration of operations within a much quicker timeframe than anticipated by port operators, APM Terminals.
